Heat and Dust in Lima

Quiet day in Lima –recuperating from the whirlwind tour of the US. Wandered around Lima and Miraflores. Walked till my feet hurt – including a long walk to Larcomar – Lima’s showpiece mall – in Miraflores; perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Pacific. Lima is an interesting mix of poverty and ostentatiousness; though the poor are not as abject as in India. And the dust! Peru is the first country I have seen outside of India that has layers of dust everywhere. And where the pollution makes you feel grimy and sick – just like Mumbai. Went searching for Indian veggie (withdrawal symptoms) – and found a Govinda’s in Moraflores. Ate what passed for Indian food and went to bed early – its Cusco and Machu Picchu tomorrow – a long day.
